Mt Evans (14,264’) - September 30, 2010
(click pictures to enlarge)
Chris Wossilek and I climbed Mt Evans on a beautiful Thursday morning.
We chose a non-standard route leaving from the Mt
Bierstadt parking lot, west of the mountain. In the distance is the gully we
were headed to hike.

The frozen water and muck made the trek in the willows pretty easy.

A look at the gully, the bottom is 12,000', the top is
13,500', 1 mile 1,500' vertical.

Above the gully was a gentle slope up to the saddle
between the Sawtooth and Mt Evans.

Looking west Mt Edwards (Gray Peak is hidden behind
Edwards) and Torreys peaks.

From left to right; Mt Wilcox (13,408'), Mt Argentine
(1,3738' and hidden behind Wilcox), Mt Edwards (13,850'), Grays and Torreys
Peaks.

Mt Bierstadt (14,060') and the Sawtooth to the right.

The north slopes of Mt Evans in the distance, picture

Pikes Peak looking to the southeast.

Looking west at Evans' west ridge, Edwards and Torreys
in the background.

The road for the folks who drive up.

Looking south from the summit.

The biggest dork you have ever seen.

The biggest dork's guide to the left.

Looking down the gully on the way back.

Mt Bierstadt on a perfect September afternoon.
